Tassie road trip
Beautiful Tasmania. Known for it’s rugged beauty, abundant seafood, cheese and wines, Tassie is a foodies dream destination.
We have been making an annual pilgrimage to Tassie. Not only for the walking trails but to also try the varied food and whiskey on offer. Here are some of our top spots for a Tassie foodies road trip.
Like most mainlanders you will either arrive in Hobart or Launceston. We started our trip from Launceston.
Launceston
Must try food: Stillwater
Fine dining modern Australian restuarant. Great way to start off your Tassie trip with some of the best Tassie produce on display.
Cradle Mountain
Must try food: Hellyers Restaurant
Most sites will list Highland Restaurant at the Cradle Mountain Lodge. It’s great food and service but Hellyers is at the same level. And we found the menu to be a little more interesting with their French influence.
Freycinet
Must try food: The Bay Restaurant
Located in the famous Freycinet Lodge, it’s a great option when you want a break from your own cooking. We stayed at one of the cabins and had a great dinner to mark the end of our Wineglass Bay trip.
Hobart
Must try food: Hobart as the largest city unsurprisingly has the most to offer in terms of options. Over the years, we have really seen more variety in cuisine on offer as well.
- Fine dining - Faro at Mona
Made all the more enjoyable with the mix of art. From the entry to the entertainment to the food, there is no other experience like it in Tassie.
2. Local casual restuarant - Suminato and LUMA
Quick service, large servings and reasonable prices. What more can you ask for!
3. Bar - Bar Wa Izakaya
We found the bar on one of the websites on places to visit in Hobart and it didn’t disappoint! Large drinks menu and amazing bar snacks.
Bruny Island
Must try food: Get Shucked Oysters
You can’t come to Bruny and not have oysters! Get Shucked has the best with a variety of sauces and even whiskey to help chase them down.
